The quintessential mid Victorian oval egg-shaped example is all wrapped up in 14k yellow gold with luscious rubies and diamonds. Clearly influenced by the archaeological revival themes of the time, the piece is embellished with a gold zig zag imitating a flounce of drapery and set with petite rose cut diamonds.
From this “hangs” five rubies in egg shape. Above it is a diamond bow set with more rose-cut diamonds and a ruby beneath.
The reverse reveals a compartment for a photograph or keepsake still retaining its original rim and glass cover that is easily prised off with a finger nail. A miniature work of art, its golden glow and elegant shape resonate with a bewitching aura.
