The Art Deco era, with its unmistakable sophisticated geometry and clean lines, has given rise to some of the world’s most sought-after jewels.

One need only think of the world-renowned houses of Cartier and Tiffany to recall that their notoriety often springs from their great Art Deco area creations.

A rare find indeed, this period onyx and diamond pendant in platinum still retains its original braided, ivory-hued silken cord.

In rectangular shape, the onyx is tiered with elongated crisscrossed facets along the sides. Flat on top and forming a sleek and glossy backdrop, a platinum square set with a diamond seems to float in its depths.

A curved triangle of platinum serves as the surmount, and another diamond-set opposing triangle is fitted over the cords.

The reverse reveals the platinum fitting with a hinged element allowing a dangle or drop to be added. Note the wheat sheaf patterns on the back hidden from view, as well as the tips for the chord; the necklace is entirely handmade.
