A crest, a cameo, a signet, a memorial ring, a man’s or woman’s ring, hallmarked and dated, engraved and personalized, a locket and in memory of a named gentleman…need we state this has it all?

Dating to 1859, the ring is a testament wrought in 18k gold and black enamel to the life of William Ross (possibly Rofs)*, Esquire who passed in that same year, or perhaps the year after.

The interior is hand engraved with this name as well as fully hallmarked for 18k, London and a date letter for 1859 as well as a maker’s mark of JW. A glass-covered secret locket rests at the apex of the interior.

A black and white carved sardonyx agate is skillfully created in the image of a shield or crest. White in relief with ebony below, it is a striking aristocratic cameo.

This oval agate is set within a fine bezel of gold. Scrolls and volutes embellish the gallery.. The entire shank is laid with enamel with the words, IN MEMORY OF clear and distinct in gold.

*Thank you to a kind email from a visitor to correct us and that this is likely Ross with the long S used.
