Oh the magic of colored gemstones that arrived from Brazil in the second half of the 18th century.

Along with previous topaz as in this ring, chrysoberyl, emeralds, rock crystal, and amethyst brought a new color palette to the jewelry of Europe.

In the easily recognizable pavesetting, this topaz ring pierces the heart with the colors of the sun on a rippling field of flowers.

Thirteen hand cut golden topaz gemstones rest in a plump pointed oval shape. Each is set closed backed with foiling beneath for full on impact.

At the center, an oval cut (12 x 11 mm) cozies up to twelve fancy trapezoid cuts.

All original, the setting and shank are 18k yellow gold. Typical of the construction, we know this was not converted or changed and the back, with it concave center area, rests snugly against the finger.

The shank also original, shows off decorative designs to each shoulder that segue to a reeded band.

These are more commonly found (although all are scarce) in paste or even chrysoberyl. Rarely does one come forth in topaz.
