Like today, in the 1940’s no name better captured the idea of embracing the best life had to offer than that of Tiffany & Co.
One of their special offerings were Tiffany & Co. branded watches, many of which were made for the company by one of the fine manufacturers.
Although the maker’s name was often hidden, the retailer contracted with a number of the world’s fine watch and jewelry making firms to produce these treasured timepieces.
Today’s offering showcases this classically elegant Tiffany & Co. mens precision seconds watch made by Movado for the prestigious retailer. Unlike many of the Tiffany’s ladies vintage watches made for the U.S. market, this is a true all Swiss creation with Swiss hallmarks on the case.
During Movado’s glorious period from 1912 through the 1950’s, when such innovations as the polyplan movement, Calendomatic, and exceptional in-house chronographs pushed the envelope of horological technology, and original designs such as the Museum watch took their place in history, their wristwatches enjoyed a level of prestige reserved only for works of the finest watchmakers.
We were fortunate to obtain it with all of its original parts down to the dial, hands, and even winding crown.
With its wonderful angled case, which resembles the bottom of a pyramid, that has distinctive large lugs, and it’s classic vintage styled dial, it has a sophisticated and charming presence.
It is in gorgeous condition, appearing to have been worn carefully in appreciation of its quality and value.
Its 14K gold case presents in mint condition. Its original and untouched silver Tiffany & Co dial just short of mint.
As you can see from the photos the angle they were taken blocked the right edge of the dial. It too is in mint condition.
One of our Master Watchmakers who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealership and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center and has done contract watchmaking work for the Richemont Group, owner of the Cartier, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin and others has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, installing a new mainspring, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).
We have also tested the watch on a machine that spins it in all directions simulating it being worn on the wrist, and it continues to keep very accurate time.
For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new cord strap that replicates the style of the original making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Certificate of Authenticity.
If you are looking for a special treasure for someone in your life, this is it. Modern Tiffany watches don’t match the charm and romance of this vintage original.
Note: Similar watches are published in John Loring’s work Tiffany Timepieces, 2004, pp. 141-143.
