A first in history, a museum-worthy working musical fob pendant is likely something you have never seen or touched before.

These miniature curiosities were meant to be worn and shown off to one’s friends as the technical marvels of their days. Just as owning a watch was a sign of wealth and distinction, so would have been this exceptional creation.

This one was fashioned in 18k yellow gold in the shape of a lyre or musical instrument, in repouss? gold work with floral motifs including roses.

Top winds and, with a few quarter turns, a quiet but distinct musical tune plays (see video). At the center, four azure blue paste oval stones are set for a touch of color.

The base houses the works of the music box. Adorned with striated horizontal designs, the center houses minute screws and a tiny on off button.

Circa 1800 and likely French in origin, this is an exceptional treasure from over 220 years ago.

Note: Winding just two quarter turns is all that is recommended. Over-winding, just like with manual clocks and watches, will freeze the movement. Minimal use is recommended to preserve its continued working condition.
