Like miniature fireworks, the rock crystal dome in this antique diamond ring has been etched underneath with tiny rays emanating from three dots.

They may be interpreted as abstracted flower blooms or tiny explosions. Either way, the subtly etched white-on-white (or clear) effect adds dimensionality to the icy, sleek surface of the rock crystal quartz cabochon.

At the center and around the edge, diamonds work their glitter play. Thirty three diamonds weigh in at .25 carats (1/4) for understated shimmer.

Rose gold divides the areas, and the top section has been blended with a later, but antique, 18k yellow gold under gallery and shank.

Perhaps this began life as a brooch or part of a larger suite of jewelry. Someone had the preservationist heart to save it and turn it into a splendid ring for the finger.
