Fascinating; this set of two seals and a watch key dates to the middle to earlier 19th century.

With the crest of the Saunders family, it features a number of elephant images carved into agate. Explore the heraldry for a fascinating look at this family that dates back to 1275.

The largest fob seal is carnelian agate. On it is a family crest with the motto, En Vertu La Force, translating to by virtue of strength, or similar.

It is carved in intaglio, with four elephant heads, a flower, a bird, and other heraldic images.

The smallest fob of white chalcedony is carved with the image of the same elephant’s head.

In addition, there is a large and ornate watch key. All three fobs are chased with floral motifs and intricate patterns, making for a rich tableau.

Better still, the original large split ring is still present.

The set was created in gold over metal with the watch key end of steel for strength.
